Energy Efficiency

Energy surveys / consulting

AWL will help you discover just how much your lighting costs to run: carrying out a full building survey and setting out all the key figures in an accessible format, helping you understand what you have, how much it is costing you and what can be done about it.

Focusing on the financial implications essential for any facilities manager or Finance Director, we will produce a clear, concise report that will summarise, amongst other headings:

  • your energy use, both current and projected
  • the environmental impact of your lighting scheme
  • your projected life-cycle costs, including maintenance.

We will also assess and report on any tax implications / benefit and environmental schemes that may be relevant (not just the enhanced capital allowance). If required, we can also help arrange funding for certain projects, including interest-free loans for public sector clients.

Our report will be carefully tailored to your site and will compare the different energy saving options that can achieve your objectives.

Are you aware of the ESOS Regulations 2014? These mandate that all large businesses* in the UK undertake comprehensive assessments of energy use and energy efficiency opportunities at least once every four years. The deadline for the first compliance period is 5th December 2015. Read more here.

(*A large undertaking is one that employs at least 250 people or has an annual turnover in excess of €50 million and a balance sheet in excess of €43 million. Most public sector bodies are excluded, but some, such as many Universities, may qualify.)

Energy efficient lighting for all types of buildings

All lighting, whether it is for your office, factory, hospital, educational or commercial premises – including emergency lighting, is available in a wide range of designs. Making the right choice can be a daunting task!

AWL can help. We can advise you on a wide variety of lighting systems, whether your requirement is to replace older fixtures and increase your energy efficiency, or simply to have the most efficient and effective new installation.

Our engineers, who are competent to install electrical wiring systems in accordance with BS 7671, will design, install, verify and test your lighting and emergency lighting. Where possible we will carry out installations at the same time as other electrical services, or retrofit if necessary. All lighting can be connected to other building automation systems for remote monitoring and testing.

With energy saving and your carbon footprint in mind, we will advise on suitable low-power and high-efficiency models. These will be predominantly LED fittings, which offer both greater energy efficiency and a longer lifespan. Also, with the use of presence/absence and daylight borrowing detection your energy consumption can be greatly reduced.

For a useful overview before you commit to any particular lighting scheme, we recommend the Carbon Trust’s Lighting Overview Guide (CTV049). This will help you to understand how to choose the most energy efficient solutions without compromising on quality.
