Theatre Refurbishment Project
Location: Gordon Street, London, WC1
Scope of project
This project was a full refurbishment of one of London’s most prestigious theatres. BIM was used extensively throughout the process by all working parties. The BIM modelling detailed containment and services with existing and new build specifications. All updates and additional instructions were detailed and shared with all construction partners in full 3D splendour. AWL was nominated by the principal contractor to install a bespoke electrical infrastructure that included new submains to panel boards that fed to specialist lighting controls, this was further connected to local distribution boards that served local lighting and small power. A further component in the project was to manage the installation of a new fire alarm and security system and new data. We installed new LED lighting throughout the theatre and in the main auditorium we installed house lighting that was supplied by GDS a specialist theatre lighting supplier. Mood lighting was installed throughout including bars and dressing rooms along with the mandatory emergency lighting.
Challenges
The main challenge was installing bespoke containment throughout the theatre with its variants of angles and space. The trunkings had to be installed at a specified distance away to avoid interference with other services.
