Upgrade of Mechanical & Electrical Infrastructure

Scope of project
At Brunel University, Alpine Works was appointed as principal contractor and was engaged in providing both electrical, mechanical and building fabric services for this project. The scope of works included the installation of Thorlux LED lighting throughout the building along with a new addressable self-test emergency lighting and a head end computer system. The electrical works also included the full rewire and new containment of the lighting systems. The Building Fabric works included the removal and reinstatement of ceilings, making good and decoration throughout.
The contract also included elements of mechanical services. This included the supply and installation of LPHW pumps, chiller for the AHU Lecture Theatre and air conditioning for the computer room.
Challenges
As principal contractor stringent H&S procedures were implemented within this operational building. The programme of works included safe site set-up and control in multiple areas at any one time. The Lecture Theatre was in constant use, so a fastrack programme was implemented for the installation of the air conditioning, the installation was carried out in the weekends.
