Clare Hall – Steam Plant Installation
Location: University College London
Background
Alpine Works successfully completed the installation of a standalone steam plant at University College London’s Clare Hall South Campus P-Block. This critical infrastructure project involved designing, supplying, and installing a containerised package plantroom to provide reliable steam services to the campus facilities.
Scope
Comprehensive works included:
– Design, supply, and installation of a fully contained steam generation system
– Complete with insulation for water, steam, and condensate pipework
– Delivery and cranage logistics in a confined campus environment
– Insurance inspection certification
Associated Infrastructure:
– Cold water system extensions and connections
– Natural gas services to both the plantroom and Block P
– Electrical installations including power cabling in trenches
– BEMS (Building Energy Management System) integration
– Thermal insulation for all steam, condensate, and water services
Compliance & Safety:
– Water hygiene risk assessments and maintenance method statements
– Fire alarm system interfacing and modifications
– Testing, commissioning, and load checking
– Comprehensive health and safety documentation
Outcome
The project was successfully delivered on time and within budget. It provided UCL with a reliable, standalone steam generation facility, achieving all performance specifications and compliance requirements. We conducted full system testing under partial and complete load conditions, two-week data monitoring collection
post-installation and detailed commissioning and handover documentation.
