Mechanical and Electrical Services for the new teaching block
Location: Old Oak Primary School, Acton
Duration: 12 weeks
Scope of project
The scope of this project comprised the design and build of mechanical and electrical services. We were also responsible for the supply, installation and commissioning of these services to this new-build construction.
The scope of the works comprised of the disconnection and removal of the mechanical and electrical services within the existing building. The supply and installation of general lighting and power installations, modifications and additions to the existing fire detection and intruder alarm systems. We also provided the supply and installation of the electrical element to the mechanical services installation and modifications to the existing data cabling installation. We also carried out the necessary works required by the supply authority and metering supplier that relates to the low voltage distribution system. The mechanical package included the installation of BMS controls, heating, gas, hot and cold-water services, natural & mechanical ventilation and a low-pressure hot water heating system. We also supplied and installed a wall mounted gas fired, condensing sealed system boiler, and an un-vented hot water cylinder. Heating and gas services pipework was also installed along with radiators and underfloor heating to make up a comprehensive mechanical and electrical services package.
Challenges
A component of this scope of works was to investigate and procure a pragmatic BMS controls system to work with people that are not on the technical side of the business. The client also expressed the wish that they required a bespoke approach to the way that the system operates as opposed to being controlled by a set of prefixes within the controls.
